Graham Vidler - Confederation of Passenger Transport UK

Our guest is Graham Vidler, Chief Executive. Confederation of Passenger Transport UK. The Confederation of Passenger Transport UK (or CPT) is the trade body for the bus and coach industries in the UK.

Graham will share with us the benefits of taking a more inclusive approach to developing their strategy and how they found the right balance for CPT’s purpose between – on the one hand – being just about what they do and on the other hand focusing only on the social benefits that flow from that.

Graham joined the Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT) as CEO in May 2019. CPT is the trade association for the UK’s bus and coach industries, with members providing around 95% of UK bus services and the majority of UK coach services. Graham’s focus has been on transforming CPT to have a clearer, stronger voice on behalf of its members.

His previous roles include a number of senior policy and communication roles in the financial services sector, Head of Policy at Which? and a senior researcher in the House of Commons Library. In all of these roles he’s sought to bring simplicity and clarity and a strong focus on customer outcomes.

Charles Wookey - Blueprint for Better Business

Charles shares with us how, as a start-up, they used the leverage of challenging widely accepted ideas to develop long-term, high impact relationships with large listed businesses. He discusses the value of joining a movement – rather than trying to create one around your offering, how they use “no money, no legals” social contracts to create the potential for real change, and how they use silence and simple questions and silence to reveal the underlying constraints that keep an organisation from making these changes.

Our guest is David Marlow, Chief Executive of the Nottingham Building Society; a role he has held since 2011.

The Nottingham is a top 10 building society with assets of over £4bn.  Since the financial crisis the Society has developed significantly; increasing its assets by almost 50% and growing its franchise from 31 branches in four counties to about 50 in 9 counties across England.

The Society is growing its membership through developing its unique all under one roof advice and service proposition providing a combination of savings, whole of market mortgage advice, whole of market financial planning advice, protection and estate planning services from its branches.

The Society is working with Salesforce and its partners to develop a fully digital version of this unique proposition, seeking to help younger members to save, plan and protect for their futures through the provision of this unique offering.
